The Indie 50,000
Longtime media industry columnist and critic Bob Garfield recently wrote an article for Media Post entitled “A Nasty Pile-Up At The Indie 50000” in which he estimated that there could be as many as 50,000 indie films released in 2014. The rest of the article laments the attention that inexperienced film makers give to the marketing requirements of their film, having probably been focused entirely just on getting the project made.
We’ll just note that one of the things the film maker should do before they leave the editing room is to make sure they cut a trailer. Then make sure you’ve gotten a copy to IVA. There’s no charge and you can upload it yourself (or we’ll be happy to help if you send us an email) and you’ll get distribution to a potential audience of over 450 million people. Trailers are some of the most popular content on the web. We know – we’ve got over 5 billion plays of trailers under our belt thanks to an affiliate network that includes Fandango, Flixster, Comcast, Fanhattan, Verizon’s RedBox Instant, and dozens more.
So avoid an Indie 50,000 pile up, and get your share of the promotional pie at prices even an indie can afford.
