This Week’s Buzz: Eye Spy With My Little Eye Bond and Black Widow
This week, the spies have it. The James Bond franchise is the fourth highest-grossing movie franchise of all time. The release of No Time to Die marks the 25th movie in the franchise with the same producers. Beginning in 1962 with the release of Dr. No, James Bond has a lasting legacy on culture and ushered in the spy theme that has been prevalent ever since. The new trailer for No Time to Die was released Wednesday and is #1 on the Trending Movies Coming to Theaters chart.
But the biggest movie franchise of all is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first trailer for Black Widow came out on Tuesday and marks the beginning of Phase 4 of the MCU with the movie’s release in May 2020. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as the deadly lady spy but the events are prior to Avengers: Infinity War. With Russia as the backdrop, the movie will dive into the origins of this complicated hero. Black Widow is currently #3 on the Trending Movies Coming To Theaters chart.
Sticking with the hero theme, HBO’s TV show Watchmen is the #9 top Trending TV show today. The show picks up after the events of the movie and limited comic series, centering around actress Regina King’s character Angela Abar/Sister Night and her conflict with a white supremacist group in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show deals with issues of racial strife, police conduct, vigilantism and includes many twists and turns with stellar performances by King, Jean Smart, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Louis Gossett Jr., Don Johnson and Jeremy Irons. Definitely worth watching.
