Research shows that the presentation of a video prior to play is enhanced if text about the video is accompanied by an image. IVA has made a strong commitment to ensuring that every trailer and preview we offer is accompanied by a thumbnail image that can be used to promote the video. For many years the only images we offered were still images that we manually pulled from every trailer we received. Today, though we continue to pull still images from trailers, we are increasingly able to provide clients with poster art, box art, or other images created by suppliers for our movie, TV, and video game titles. We continue to pull still images for our indie music videos. There are times when we are not able to offer an image, for example when a title is so new that all we have is the information, but no trailer and no art.
Accessing images:
Free Trailer API If you are using our Free Trailer API, you do not need to do anything. Still images from each trailer are included as thumbnails with the trailers and the player.
OData API If you are a subscription customer, images are accessed through the OData API in our web services. Longtime clients who are still using our Image API 1.0 can continue to find documentation about this legacy API here.
Custom Stills Service Additionally subscription customers have the ability to customize the aspect ratio of a still image in our database to meet the specific needs of their website or app. If a client is uploading proprietary video to our Media Manager CMS, they can pull an image from their content and customize it to the size they need using our Custom Stills Service.
